It is the area that expands beyond the Material Plane, connected by a spherical portal that slowly transitions from the Atmosphere. A sea of darkness and silver filled with small elemental nodules.

All you'd know is that they certainly came from the Far Realm, a specific point or perhaps portal in the Astral Sea. While the Astral is essentially made of the collective unconscious and mind energy from all living beings, the Far Realm is said to be made from all the fears and nightmares.
