Tural's Shard

#trine 20-04-25 From the talk with Daenur Rumneal

Gem dragons can sometimes splinter into what's known as a Draconic Shard, though that typically should only happen upon death.

Typically a gem dragon turning into a Draconic Shard means that the dragon's whole essence animates a part of them.

She also knows that a Draconic Shard should grant its wielder particular powers, which Daenur hasn't necessarily displayed. The Shard could be dormant, or it could not be a proper Draconic Shard.

If it were a proper shard, it would essentially count as an Undead creature, so yes. But it also does not sound impossible that the Shard of a powerful Sapphire dragon would be able to block any such communications at will.
