Riga knows that Gnolls are humanoids, but they have heavy ties to the Abyss. If one were to somehow register as a Fiend to magic, it would mean it was almost certainly created by harnessing a soul. Humanoids typically have souls, as surviving without one is difficult.

-Gnolls are pretty tall, nearing the height of half-giants. They are an existence that teeters between fiendish and humanoid. They expand not by reproducing, but by consuming life, hence the mention of spreading like a plague. They often travel with hyenas. They are beasts of endless hunger and consumption, to the point where they might turn on each other on a whim.

The great majority of Gnolls are roaming bands of hunters that worship Yeenoghu to some degree, eventually diving deeper. A few Gnolls have been known to join society, but they are often shunned for their "laughter" and suffer prejudice or hardship over their hunger (which although not as great as when under Yeenoghu, is still aberrant).

Dench is weird for a gnoll: alchemy is not a thing among them, they rarely speak common.
Larger gnoll groups for Matriarchal societies.
Gnoll breeders are hyenas Uplifted into full Gnolls by a Channeler. Dench's channeler was Xarla.
The gnolls are also attacking the Steel Coast, as reported by Thallium
