Revenant

Revenants are one of the smarter types of undead creatures, and retain their souls. In that, they are able to retain a measure of autonomy and free will.
Revenants, however, are bound by the reason for their return. Revenants are Rare in that they are never truly Raised by someone, such as a cleric or necromancer. They are no plaything of warlocks, replacement workhands, or soldiers for Death Knights.
No. Instead, they are born out of sheer will- hence, sometimes, people such as paladins, judges, betrayed lovers or others defined by duty, vengeance, and desire- especially those wrapped in a feeling of injustice or having failed to fulfill it properly. It does not escape Riga how much that reminds her of how Fates appear to work- an imposed outcome.
In the end, a Revenant's soul remains. It remembers. It wants. Some call it a curse. Others call it divine mercy. But truly, to Riga's eyes, it cannot be either. It is a sentence passed out by the universe.
Revenants are also cursed by their appearance. They never truly appear alive, seen by their peers as less than. Ordo's Fate, in this case, seems like a match made by the Celestials.
Revenants keep their souls, but the nature of their being- their mission- may cause them to lose themselves over the years. The longer it glues soul to corpse, the harsher this strain. Most importantly in this case, death means nothing for a Revenant. If their corpse dies, they simply inhabit another within the day. In this manner, they resemble a Lich's refusal of death that goes beyond the material.
Riga recalls, however, that one thing may kill a Revenant for good- if within a day of their death, one casts Dispel Evil and Good on their last inhabited corpse. Thus, their soul is freed. The corpse, however, may never have its old owner back, for its second death came as an Undead.
