Grells
Mentioned by Noska Darr, how he lost his arm in Troval
Grells are strange Aberrations that resemble brains with beaks somewhere between a hawk's and a dodo's, with many barbed tendrils dangling from beneath. Though their outside body looks like a large humanoid or small giant's brain, studies have shown that the outside matter is mostly only a coincidence, as they have an actual brain within, more in line with medium humanoids. The outside tissue, however, still has sparse nerve endings. Their purpose is mostly unknown, but it is theorized that they utilize these nerves in order to perceive their surroundings via echolocation and electrical fields.
They are capable of flying, a skill typically linked to an aura of graviturgy these creatures exude. Their tentacles produce a potent paralytic venom capable of readily stopping the throats of their targets- this prevents them from crying out, but has no real threat of suffocation. Like spiders, they like to consume their prey while they are still alive and warm.
Grells have been observed to form packs and communicate amongst themselves, but the language has yet to be identified, and they make no effort to do anything to a humanoid except kill and consume.
On Grells in Troval
Riga has no recollection of any specific event in Troval's history that involves Grell, but they are one of the most commonly-known Aberration creatures throughout Aard. There are many bedtime stories about being careful when out in the woods or playing in dark caves, lest a Grell might wrap you up in its tentacles and take you away.
However, during her stay in Troval, Riga has noticed that the place has more than a few actual first-hand accounts of Grell encounters both under and above ground, which only strikes her as strange now.
