Chimeras
[Arcana 30 - Riga]
Chimeras can have one of a few possible origins. Some accounts of more mundane chimeras, without the draconic aspects, exist since long before the Draconic Wars, and it's believed those were the result of Transmutation wizards or sorcerers that lost control. Some people credit draconic chimeras to chromatic dragons, but scholars agree they are too proud to mix their selves with regular beasts. Other people even claim they are demonic creations, or the result of a playful fey.
Whatever the origin, Chimeras have the particular quirk that they can mate with any other Chimera, giving birth to a new mixed generation. Most modern chimeras possess three heads, with the central being a lion and the others being a goat and chromatic dragon of varying scale colors. However, they may be made up of different animals, from giant cave lizards to cheetahs or even, chaotically, elephants.
Whatever their particular makeup, Chimeras are always carnivorous. They tend to take the space of the apex hunter of the area in which they live, and can apply great pressure and change to the surrounding wildlife, which may adapt over the years of come crashing down completely.
A Chimera with a central dragon head is not impossible, but it's highly unlikely without more direct tampering.
- Riga: Could it also be an older chimera, from a generation before the interbreeding and the wide spread of the dominant lion-goat-dragon makeup?
- DM: Very possible. Especially if it has taken on more direct draconic abilities and gained the power to age through a hoard. (See Dragons)
