Topaz Dragon
You have heard that Ytesh's western desert is inhabited by a variety of creatures and threats, some among those being Gnolls and creatures such as the Kruthik you faced a few days ago. Dragons are among those.
The southwestern corner of the desert houses Dragon's Bay, a place named such initially due to the vaguely maw-shaped outline of its coast. However, in many years through either speculation, hear-say or otherwise, sightings of dragons have been associated to those bays. Many are the wyrms that could lay claim to the coastal sands as their homes. Blue, Topaz Dragon, Bronze or even Brass dragons could be found amongst sands in the coast, and that is not even considering other types of non-True dragons such as Sand dragons, Sea dragons, Vocaliths, etc etc.
Trick's story narrows it down to the three last True dragon colors by it being 'sand-colored', especially if constant contact and friction with sand made their scales duller. The specific worry about life and death brings you closer to Topaz dragons, which are Gem dragons linked to Necrotic energies and decay itself. They are sentinels who claim the threshold between land and sea, watching over salt-choked ruins and keeping Kuo-Toa away from their lairs.
Topaz dragons are said to speed up the erosion of sand and dirt around them, and therefore prefer lairs of sand or beneath the waves, even though they hate being in water. They are somewhat similar to Wildfire druids in that they see destruction as a process, a way of clearing way for new creation and growth. They are known to be driven closer to crumbling structures to clear way for new constructions, not seeing the worth in maintaining the past.
They tend to hate company, and prefer the presence of Undead under their control. They are fascinated with information on destruction or creation, whether abstract or practical. They are fascinated by magic that creates from nothing, animates undead, destroys matter, or plays with life whether through draining or healing.

From Ravik's general knowledge of Topaz dragons
Topaz dragons are creatures of the coast and particularly deserts, but they also favor other places where life seems to refuse to take root. Wastelands scarred by war and acid, geyser plains so hot one could barely breathe, or even places cursed by the Shadowfell's negative influence are prime real estate for most Topaz dragons… so long as it's near their so hated sea. They are sentinels who claim the threshold between land and sea, watching over salt-choked ruins and keeping Kuo-Toa away from their lands. They are said to speed up the erosion of sand and dirt around them, which is why they prefer to lie in craters of sand, akin to antlions, or beneath the waves. They see destruction as a process, a way of opening space for the New. They are known to destroy crumbling structures and ruins to clear way for new construction, preferring to speed up decay rather than stand and watch it naturally occur.
They are fascinated with undead and information on destruction or creation, whether abstract or practical. They are fascinated by magic that creates from nothing, animates undead, destroys matter, or plays with life whether through draining or healing. In a Topaz Dragon's lair, you may find a recipe for a cure-all potion right next to a dead Lich's broken phylactery and the recorded last words of a community struck by a plague.
