Sash of the Tale-Picker

Sash of the Tale-Picker

Wondrous item, Rare (requires attunement by a Tabaxi touched by Kelemvor)

This rustic sash is woven in the simplest of threads, which form its speckled tan surface. It is trimmed with golden, wavy lines, and a series of splashes of colored patterns decorate it. It feels strangely nostalgic.

Perform your Soul

While wearing this sash, a creature may incorporate it into their performances. The sash flows, expands, and contracts like an extension of its wearer's own will, matching the rhythm of their movements like another limb. While attuned, you may add your Dexterity modifier to any Performance checks you make to entertain others through song and dance.

Additionally, your movements flow with added grace. You may add your Charisma modifier to Acrobatics checks.

Divine Dance

While attuned to this Sash, the first time per Long Rest that you use your Divine Favor, you do not need to spend any Spell Points.

Sealer of Tales

Most storytellers capture ideas and lessons, spinning them into something easier to remember. Easier to retell.

This Sash, however, helps its wielder harness the true essence of a story that becomes legend- stories that leave marks that reach one's very soul.

Whenever you uncover, witness, or are granted the telling of a powerful or formative story, you may inscribe a seed of it onto the Sash. During your next Long Rest, you may fully realize it, Recording the story permanently onto the Sash.

A Recorded Tale is permanent unless something happens to tarnish it.

You can hold a number of Tales equal to twice your Proficiency Bonus.

Spark of Inspiration

At the end of each Long Rest, you may select two of your Recorded Tales to become your active Sparks of Inspiration.

Each Spark of Inspiration grants the Sash's wearer capabilities related to the story that inspired them. A story of Betrayal may grant you advantage on Insight checks to discern one's true allegiances, a story of a Hero's last stand may grant you the ability to resist being knocked out, etc.

Swan Song

Another way of removing a Recorded Tale is by performing a Swan Song. As an Action, choose one of your Recorded Tales. You or a creature of your choice within 30 feet that can hear or see you gains a bonus based on its Spark of Inspiration effect, but made stronger in its final efforts. This bonus lasts until the creature's next Long Rest.

Once a Tale has undergone a Swan Song, it is permanently removed from the Sash, and can only be recorded again if new facts about the story are unearthed.

Touching this Sash, you feel it craving something more. It has potential to grow.

Recorded Tales

"A tabaxi, much like Trick, is stitched onto the sash. She holds up a lantern, its blue-purple light shining into tendrils of shadow that recoil away from her." When this is selected as your Spark of Inspiration, you become immune to the frightened condition. Additionally, you can cast the Dancing Lights cantrip at will. The sash counts as the spell's focus. Light cast by this spell is able to overcome magical darkness created by spells of 3rd level or lower.
