Kuo-Toa Gland (Damaged)

Kuo-Toa Gland

Found in the Hydra Lair. BugSaw identified that malachite had affected it, and it should not have survived. It was wrapped and placed in the Bag of Holding.

This object was taken from the brain of a grown Kuo-Toa. It is roughly the size of a small plum. It is damaged by both Trick's arrow and mild decomposition.

Magic appears to pass through the soft, spongy matter in its core that conforms to the shape of dense bone, with a texture between the geometric perfection of a hive and the ridged surface of a brain.

This object may take the place of a Holy Symbol for Clerics and Paladins.

With a little work and by studying its design, this Gland can be used or reproduced in other creations.

[Arcana 32] :
Studying it, Riga gets interesting results. From the object's composition to the way it is arranged, it seems to function as a form of... net. Like a dream catcher, collecting ambient energy to later redirect it. Notably, she feels similarities between it and divine magic she has witnessed, both from clerics, paladins, and consecrated places/objects alike.

However, it also reminds her of the way The Wandering Shard malachite affects the weave around it. With that high of an arcana check? This brings her back to her time in Troval, witnessing Dwarf mages weaving together spells of chronomancy to strengthen their buildings against the forces of time.

A hag might want this for many reasons. First, Kuo-Toa can manifest their belief into reality- this is the ultimate magic all spellcasters yearn for, and this gland might be the key behind that ability. Additionally, it's clearly an efficient magic battery, to start off with. Its power to harness divine magic is also interesting, at the very least, and for one that knows the true importance of the number 8 in Aard, what other secrets might it hold? To Riga, putting together the Kuo-Toa corpses, statue, and reliefs in the Temple and this leads her to believe they are linked to this whole scheme.

Its capabilities as a more efficient way to store magic. Applying its design principles to crafting a magic item and/or using it as an ingredient might yield an item with more charges, or that gains more charges when recharging.
